The university has approved the continuation of the single-use garage permit pilot program for Permit Year 2026-27. In this program, a limited number of annual 11th Avenue Garage Permits (11G), previously called the AG3 permit during Permit Year 2025-26, will be available to employees eligible for the general A-Permit.
To ensure a guaranteed parking space in a central campus location, this pilot permit grants access only to the 11th Avenue Garage during peak hours (5 a.m. – 4 p.m.). It will retain access to any A, B or C surface lot parking space at any time and off-peak (4 p.m. – 3 a.m.) garage access campus-wide, excluding designated 24/7 patient and visitor garages.
The details:
- The 11G permit will be accessible to any A-Permit-eligible university employee
- A limited number of 11G permits will be sold for the 2026-27 permit year, and a waitlist lottery will be used to manage sales of the permit
- The 11G waitlist will be available to employees beginning at 12:01 a.m. on June 8
- Permit award offers will begin to be distributed via email on June 22
- If you are interested in signing up for the waitlist to purchase this permit, please log into your parking account, select “Manage Waitlists” from the My Account menu, choose the 11th Avenue Garage Permit (11G), and follow the prompts for submission on or after June 8
Frequently Asked Questions about the permit:
The 11th Avenue Garage Permit (11G) is a limited-availability option designed for customers who prioritize guaranteed parking in a highly desired garage. While some customers feel a sense of loss in no longer “hunting” for parking across multiple garages, this reflects a trade-off rather than reduced value. The 11th Avenue Garage Permit replaces uncertainty with reliability—eliminating the time, stress, and risk associated with searching for a space when garages are often full. Pricing parity reflects the added value and scarcity of guaranteed access, not a reduction in flexibility.
What is the difference between an A-Permit and the 11th Avenue Garage Permit (11G)?
An A-Permit offers flexibility in permit garages other than 11th Avenue—you can look for parking in multiple garages, depending on availability. The 11th Avenue Garage Permit is designed for customers who prefer certainty. It guarantees a parking space in a specific, high-demand garage that is not available to all customers.
Why does the 11th Avenue Garage Permit cost the same as an A-Permit if it allows parking in fewer locations?
The 11th Avenue Garage Permit and A-Permits offer value in different ways. While an A-Permit provides broader access, the (11G) guarantees parking in a highly desired location where demand historically exceeds supply. The price reflects the added value and operational cost of reserving space in a garage with limited capacity.
Why can’t 11G permit holders park in other garages during peak hours?
The 11G guarantees a parking space in a specific garage. Allowing unrestricted parking in other garages during peak hours would reduce availability for customers who rely on those garages and do not have access to the 11th Avenue Garage. This approach helps ensure fair access and reliable parking for all customers. The AG3-Permit does allow access to all permit garages during off-peak hours.
I feel like I lost flexibility by choosing the 11G.
Choosing the 11G involves a trade-off: you give up the need to search across multiple garages in exchange for the certainty of a guaranteed space in a preferred location. While flexibility is reduced, reliability and predictability increase. If you purchase this permit and decide the trade-off is not helpful, you can always exchange it for the general A-Permit at any time.
What is the main benefit of guaranteed parking?
Guaranteed parking removes uncertainty. The 11G Permit guarantees access to a parking space in the 11th Avenue Garage, providing certainty that parking is available there even during peak demand. While you may still need to locate an open space within the garage, you avoid the uncertainty of whether parking is available at all.
Who is the 11G Permit best suited for?
The 11G Permit is ideal for customers who:
- Park regularly in a specific area
- Value time savings and reduced stress
- Prefer reliable access over daily parking decisions
How should I decide between an A-Permit and an 11G Permit?
If you value parking location flexibility and don’t mind searching for available spaces, an A-Permit may be the better selection. If you value certainty, time savings and guaranteed access in a high-demand location, the 11G Permit may offer greater overall value. If you find that the option you select is not working for your needs, you may switch to a different permit.
