Visitor Parking

Visitors and guests to The Ohio State University are required to purchase parking any time they park on campus. All parking on campus is allocated and signed for specific uses, and parking regulations are enforced 24/7. There are two basic options for visitor parking:

Garage Parking: Prevalent in the dense Academic Core and Wexner Medical Center areas
Surface Lot Parking: Typically located in less dense areas along the campus perimeter

For a detailed map of parking areas, click here.

Surface Lot Parking

Surface Lot Parking is typically located in less dense areas along the campus perimeter. The payment options outlined below allow access to nonrestricted A, B, or C parking spaces. (Surface Lot Visitor Remote Permits are limited to nonrestricted WA, WB, WC, or CX spaces.) Surface lot payment options are valid in surface lots only; if you park in a garage, all hourly fees must be paid upon exit. All parking rules are enforced 24/7. Surface lot parking is restricted on football Saturdays.

Metered Parking

Single-space parking meters are placed in high-demand areas to facilitate short-term parking. Meters are available to anyone (CampusParc permit holders or visitors) on campus provided that the meter fees are paid. Disability parking permit holders may also park in metered spaces as long as the meter fee is paid. All meters take U.S. quarters only, and the maximum time allowed is posted on each meter.

Pay-by-Plate machines are located throughout campus to allow visitors to purchase parking. To pay for parking, walk to the nearest Pay-by-Plate machine (clearly marked by directional signs). Enter your license plate number and select the form of payment and amount of parking time desired, as indicated by printed instructions on the Pay-by-Plate machine. Since verification of payment is done via license plate, it is imperative to enter your license plate information correctly. Please verify all information before finalizing your transaction. Machines do not provide change or refunds.

After entering the required information and setting up your account, you can begin ”parking sessions” by accessing your account (via one of the three methods available) and confirming your license plate number, parking zone number, and intended duration of stay. Surface Lot Visitor Permits

Visitors who plan on visiting campus frequently within a month or semester may purchase a Temporary Surface Lot Permit, which can be purchased in single, multiday, or monthly increments. These permits are valid in the designated Central or Remote parking spaces. If you park in a visitor space, single-space meter space, or in a parking garage, all fees must be paid.

With the exception of the Remote Overnight Monthly Permit, permits are not valid for overnight parking during the week. On weekends and holidays, Surface Lot Temporary Permit holders are permitted to park overnight. Visitor overnight parking (i.e., parking between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.) is restricted to the West Campus WC5 parking lot (Carmack Lot 5). Surface Lot Temporary Remote Permits are limited to nonrestricted WA, WB, or WC spaces. Permits may be purchased at the CampusParc Customer Service Center located here.

General Parking Information

Parking Areas

The remote parking boundary is designated as any area west of State Route 315. Blankenship is the sole exception to this designation. Remote permit holders must park in the parking lots located west of State Route 315 (except the Blankenship lot). For a detailed map of parking areas click here.

On football Saturdays, many lots on campus are reserved strictly for football parking. All vehicles must be removed from these lots by 5:00 a.m. on game day. Any vehicle not removed by that time will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Weekend/Off-Peak Parking

To promote safety, some access restrictions are reduced after 4:00 p.m. weekdays, all day on weekends, and holidays to encourage customers to use the nearby parking lots. The following times are considered off-peak parking:

  • Weekday Evenings: 4:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday
  • Weekends: 4:00 p.m. Friday through 3:00 a.m. Monday
  • Holidays: 12:01 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. the following day

During these times, additional parking garages become available for visitor use, and remote surface lot permits are valid in nonrestricted Central Campus A, B, or C spaces. On weekends and holidays, Surface Lot Temporary Permits allow parking overnight.

Overnight Visitor Parking

Overnight visitor parking is available seven days a week in designated 24/7 Visitor Garages and by paid parking via single-space meters, Pay-by-Plate machines, or Parkmobile. Surface Lot Temporary Permit holders are restricted to parking in the Remote West Campus WC5 parking lot (Carmack Lot 5) during the overnight hours of 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Due to limited parking availability on campus, vehicles may not be parked for more than 72 hours in one location/space, unless otherwise posted. If a vehicle needs to be stored on campus for an extended time, the owner should contact CampusParc.

Disability Parking

Signed visitor accessible parking spaces, at posted rates, are available in all visitor parking garages, at single-space meters, and in all surface lots.

Motorcycle Parking

Motorcycles are required to park in two-wheel vehicle spaces during peak times. A current CampusParc motorcycle permit is required, unless the motorcycle is parked at a metered motorcycle space (all fees must be paid).

In addition to surface lot two-wheel vehicle spaces, motorcyclists may park in the following garages with dedicated motorcycle entrances: SafeAuto Hospitals, Neil Avenue, Ohio Union South, 9th Avenue East, West Lane, and Lane Avenue Garages.

For holders of annual motorcycle parking permits, overnight and/or storage parking is available in the West Lane Garage and the Carmack 5 Overnight Lot on Remote West Campus.
